The Redcliffe Tigers will enjoy new flood-proof change rooms and lights this season thanks to a $450,000 upgrade of their facilities.
The project, to be jointly funded by the Moreton Bay Council, Queensland State Government and the AFL has been desperately needed due to the grounds at Rothwell Oval flooding at least once a year since 2009.
In May 2009, October 2010, January 2011/12 and February 2013 there has been flooding of at least 600 mm high through the change rooms and canteen, whilst at the same time completely submerging the ground above fence height.
Redcliffe Tigers Football Operations Manager, Steve Brown, said construction started just before the Australia Day weekend, but has been delayed due to more rain and bad weather.
“We had hoped that it would all be done by the end of the month (March), but because of all this rain it’s looking like it won’t be finished until the end of April,” Mr Brown said.
Mr Brown said he would have liked to have everything ready for the round one clash against rival team Caboolture, but was grateful to the Moreton Bay Council for providing demountables to be used in the mean time.
“Thankfully the Moreton Bay Council and Coates Hire have come to the party by giving us some demountables to get us through until the building is finished,” Mr Brown said.
