With the highly anticipated return of the North Queensland versus South Queensland representative clash, comes a stellar line up of coaches across all four teams.
The clash, to be played on June 24 in Cairns, marks the eighth year of the men’s rivalry, and the second time the women will have an opportunity to play in the intrastate rep game.
Wes Glass will be the Head Coach of the reigning men’s champions, the North Queensland team.
John Durkin, this years’ Ambassador for the North Queensland men’s side, said Glass had what it took to lead the team to a third consecutive victory.
“Last year, the North Queensland men delivered the most comprehensive victory over South Queensland in tough conditions on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“The 2023 squad, under Wes Glass, have the opportunity to consolidate their success at Cazaly’s Stadium and level the ledger at four wins a piece.
“Glass was an Assistant Coach under Flash Davey last year and has also played several times in the annual clash, so is no stranger to the program.”
Helping Glass lead the North Queensland men’s side will be Assistant Coaches Darren Andrews, Luke Sommerville, Christian Burgess, and Cameron Campbell.
South Queensland Men’s Ambassador, Danny Craven, spoke highly of his teams newly appointed Head Coach – Andrew Cadzow.
“This year’s South Queensland side is in great hands with Andrew Cadzow, who is a dual Division One Premiership Coach of Maroochydore, leading them to victory in 2017 and 2018,” he said.
“The rivalry between the North and South remains fierce and after winning four in a row, then losing the last two, we’re hungry to get back on the podium.”
Working closely with Cadzow will be Assistant Coaches, Josh Duffy, Paul Reyne and Adam Holland.
After taking the title of the inaugural North Queensland versus South Queensland women’s clash, North Queensland Ambassador Jo Butland, and Head Coach Jen Revell, are aiming to remain undefeated.
Butland expressed full faith in Revell’s coaching abilities and experience.
“Revell has coached through the Gold Coast SUNS Academy in Mackay over the last several years and has done a remarkable amount of work for women’s football in North Queensland,” she said.
“I was rapt to have her as an Assistant Coach last year. She was a huge asset to our coaching line up and is the logical choice to take over.”
Working alongside Revell will be Lead Assistant Coach and Mentor Wayne Siekman, and Assistant Coach Eliza Oates.
With high hopes of making 2023 the year the South Queensland women’s team brings home its first title, is Ambassador Kate Guy and Head Coach Jaimie Stanton.
“This year is a great opportunity for community club players to be coached by Head Coach Jamie Stanton and her experienced coaching line up,” Guy said.
“Stanton is returning for her second year as South Queensland Head Coach and brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.
“This is an exciting time for players to gain more experience and show off their talent to the broader community.”
Further match details including squad and team lists will be announced over the coming weeks.
