St Joseph’s Nudgee took on Brisbane Boys College for the Foundation Cup.
St Joseph’s Nudgee College First XVIII has won the annual Foundation Cup, beating traditional rivals Brisbane Boys’ College at Zillmere.
The match is the customary fixture to the AFL SportsReady Queensland Independent Schools competition and pits the grand finalist from the previous year against one another.
Strong performances from Nudgee’s Lachlan McKellor, Nick Sculphor and Bill Pendlebury helped them to win the contests that mattered and put pressure on BBC’s defence.
For BBC, Henry Watson and Harry Buchanan fought hard and Macaulay Robinson offered strong support but it was not enough to overcome a powerful Nudgee side.
Nudgee’s solid first quarter established the match to ensure they got their hands on the unique piece of silverware.
The Foundation Cup started its life as an ice bucket before being converted into a prestigious trophy by long-time AFLQ staff member Murray Bird.
Nudgee remains undefeated going into this week’s AFL SportsReady QIS competition grand final.
They will take on a revitalised Anglican Church Grammar School who are relishing in the return of under 16 representative players to strengthen their line-up.
The match will be the centrepiece of the GPS Division’s Grand Final night to be held at Yeronga AFC on Friday 25th of May.
