The state-of-the-art $5.3m Ormeau Sports Park opens this Saturday at 8.30am.
Community members are invited to come along for all the fun, footy and festivities of the opening.
The sports park is the only one of its kind on the Gold Coast, offering two full-size senior AFL fields, both with best practice surface, soil, drainage and irrigation.
Deputy Mayor and Divisional Councillor for the area Donna Gates said the Ormeau Sports Park was the latest addition in a series of social infrastructure developments that had opened in the north of the Gold Coast.
“In the past four months we’ve seen the opening of the $22 million Upper Coomera Centre, followed by the $21 million Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre. With the addition of the Ormeau Sports Park, local residents now have access to some outstanding community facilities,” Cr Gates said.
The site was purchased in 2010 using funds collected from ratepayers under the Recreation Space Separate Charge. The City of Gold Coast then used infrastructure charges to fund an agreement where Stockland would construct the facility as part of the Stockland Ormeau Ridge development.
