Morningside AFL Players to walk 1 mile in red high-heeled shoes to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence.
Saturday November 7 2015
In its second year, the Morningside Panthers AFC annual “Walk a Mile in her Shoes” will be held this Saturday. Walking as a group, the Players are choosing to make a visible a stand, raising awareness of sexual and domestic violence.
Retiring Seniors Coach, David Lake says he hopes the teams walking will set a good example for all players “If you want to be part of our community, these are the standards we live by. Whether it’s domestic violence or racism, we want to show that it is not ok”.
Profits raised will be donated to White Ribbon Australia. With major event sponsor Downtown Toyota leading the way with four registered teams, the event is set to be a great morning. Other local businesses have also been keen to get involved; TPS Health, Urban Construct, Tight & Tidy Fitness, Brisbane Pool Boys and Inglass have all sponsored teams, and are keen to see as many walkers as possible on the day.
By hosting the event, both the Morningside Panthers and the AFL are demonstrating their core values of respect towards women. The club invites everyone to join the cause and help create a community which is safe for everyone, no matter their gender.
You can register on line at www.mycause.com.au/events/pantherswalkamileinhershoes or on the day at the Morningside Panthers Club House, via Oak Street, Hawthorne.
