Park Ridge State High has heralded the start of a new footy era at the school, taking out last Friday’s Schools of Excellence Jonathan Brown Cup at Yeronga.
Up against defending champions Palm Beach Currumbin State High in the final, there were no nerves for the Year 8 students from Park Ridge who took control of the match early kicking six goals to one by the first break.
Their height was formidable and in the end proved a match winner for Park Ridge who utilised their advantage across the ground.
Park Ridge ran out winners 14.9.93 to PBC 2.2.14, with Mitchell Fitzpatrick winning the Best on Ground medallion.
Coach Craig McBrien praised the efforts of his students in their inaugural JB Cup win, and acknowledged the hard work that went into finishing the carnival undefeated.
Eight Schools of AFL Excellence competed in the annual event over the course of two days in Term 1, with finals following the round robin games.
Helensvale and Narangba Valley contested a closely-fought play off for third, with Helensvale proving too strong in the end winning 6.4.40 to Narangba Valley 4.1.25.
