QAFL Round 6 2024 – Preview

By Abby Collins

Buckle up for this weekend’s wild ride, with the Noosa Tigers and Sherwood Magpies the featured match for Round 6.

Looking for their second win of the season, the teams will be bringing the heat to Powenyenna Oval this Saturday.

The Tigers will be walking onto the field with the confidence of their last match up against their black-white foes, having won the nail-biting last face off 15.13 (103) to 13.9 (87).

The Magpies, having lost round 7 last year against the Tigers, are sure to bring the noise, as they attempt to ruffle some feathers and go for redemption in front of their home crowd.

Separated by a mere rung on the ladder, this matchup is shaping up to be a fierce, no-holding back contest.

Both teams have tasted victory once this season, in their rounds against Mt Gravatt, with each team dishing out a more than 100-point win.

With four precious points on the line, expect both sides to leave everything on the field.

Rhys Free, a fresh Tigers recruit for this season will be bringing the heat. The new blood has proved himself with his seven goals in last week’s match up against Mt Gravatt.

Mitchell Conn and Jai Fitzpatrick will be the disposal kings to watch, looking to control the midfield battle for Noosa.

Sherwood welcomes a heavy line up of big hitters.

With a long line of disposals, Owen Collins and Will Fletcher will be crucial in this weekend match up for Sherwood.

Some big shifts in the line ups see key personnel coming back to the field this Saturday.

Noosa Tigers will lose Mason Gilfillan and Lachlan Flagg (Captain).

Their line up brings back Cian Mallon to their pack of backs, Benjamin McNiece to their strong midfield and Maverick Pettigrove to rock their forwards.

Sherwood loses James Harrison and Brodie Gardner.

But they welcome back a stacked line with, Riley Greene and Dan Edwards in half back, Stanley Waistcoat and Xavier Knight for their forwards, as well as Jacob Aursich and Isaac McCarthy to the interchange.

Other action this weekend includes Wilston Grange battling it out with Broadbeach, Palm Beach Currumbin looking to add another win to their belt in their match up against Redland Victoria Point, a very yellow face off with Aspley playing Labrador, Maroochydore hosting an in-form Surfers Paradise, and Mt Gravatt still looking for their first win as they face off against Morningside.
