AFL Queensland has today announced the 2019 fixtures for the QFAW Division 2 North and South competition.
Following the re-alignment of AFL Queensland’s female football structure, both Division 2 competitions have endured significant change ahead of season 2019.
The 15-round Division 2 North competition will commence on April 6, with games across the Ipswich, Brisbane, Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions.
Both 2018 Grand Finalists, Jindalee and Sandgate will return to the competition while North Shore and Redcliffe will field teams for the first time in the competition.
Moreton Bay, in similar vein to Jindalee, will field teams in both Division 1 and Division 2 North competitions this year.
The Division 2 South competition will run for 18 rounds and will too commence on Saturday, April 6, with games played in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The five-team Division 2 South competition is the smallest of the five senior football competitions in south-east Queensland and features all returning teams for this year.
Both the Division 2 North and South fixtures include several themed rounds across the season, including ANZAC Round, which will take place in Round 3 for the North competition and Round 4 for South, Umpire Appreciation Round in Round 4 and Round 5 respectively, and Sir Doug Nicholls Round in Round 7 and Round 8 respectively.
The marquee rounds aim to celebrate their role in their local communities.
Also included in both the Division 2 North and South fixture is the addition of the Pride Round, highlighted by the traditional showdown between Robina and Surfers Paradise at Scottsdale Drive.
The Pride Round aims to emphasise and promote LGBTIQ+ inclusion through the prism of football and will be played in Round 15 in the North competition and Round 17 in the South.
The conclusion of both home and away seasons will culminate in a three-week finals series for the South competition and a four-week finals series for the North competition, with the Women’s Grand Final Showcase scheduled for Sunday August 25.
