The Queensland Under 19 female team that will compete in this weekend’s 2021 NAB National U19 Championship game against Victoria Country has been announced.
The game will be played on Sunday, 23 May at midday in Port Melbourne.
The final team of 24 players, with five other squad players as emergencies, will travel to Melbourne on Saturday.
AFL Talent Manager Queensland, Mark Browning, said it was really exciting for the girls to finally get to play in the NAB National Under 19 Championships.
“The delays due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Queensland in April have worked in our favour because we have been able to have a strong development program over the last six weeks plus they have had another six weeks of QAFLW football,” he said.
“The opportunity to go to Melbourne this weekend and play against Victoria Country at a traditional Port Melbourne VFL field will be an incredible experience for these girls.
“The team will then end the Championships playing at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast against Victoria Metro the following Saturday, which we are ready for.
“We congratulate the selected players and wish them all the best for the games ahead.”
The squad is coached by Gold Coast SUNS Academy female coach Sam Iles and Brisbane Lions female coach Damien Richards and is supported by assistant coaches, medical and high-performance staff from the two academies providing a fantastic development experience for the selected players.
