Springwood’s Rowan Page has claimed the Duncanson Todd Medal as Best and Fairest player for the QFA Division 1 HART Sport Cup, joining a long list of winners at the 2017 Queensland Football Awards at the Mercure Brisbane tonight.
Page played every game this season, kicked a dozen goals and set up many more to earn a competition topping 22 votes; three votes ahead of Coorparoo’s Blake Stewart.
Jessica Davy took top honours in QWFA Division 1 with 23 votes. She kicked seven goals for the season and was named in the best players seven times. Davy nudged out Bond University’s Molly Ritson, who finished second with 22 votes.
The Maroochydore Roos were named the Alpha Sport Club of the Year and Noosa Tigers received the Graydon Poulsen Award for their work with Sunshine Butterflies, an agency which provides services for people with disabilities and work to reduce the stigma associated with disability.
The night wasn’t all about the players; coaches, volunteers, offcials and administrators were also acknowledged for their contribution to the game.
Coach of the Year awards went to Moreton Bay Lions’ Lee Whitehorn (QFA), Bond University’s David Ashkar (QWFA) and Aspley Hornets’ Peter Goeldner (Colts).
Volunteer of the Year awards were handed out to Burleigh Bombers’ Jessica Arnold (QWFA), Ballina Bombers Carol Burns (QFA Northern Rivers) and Pine Rivers Swans’ Jeanette Clifford (QFA).
Philip Wilson was named Community Umpire of the Year.
The Queensland Football Awards celebrate the achievements of players, volunteers, administrators and officials in the QFA Divisions 1 to 5, QFA Wide Bay Sunshine Coast, QFA Northern Rivers and QWFA Division’s 1 and 2.
