Queensland Under 18 State Team announced ahead of National Championships

A squad of 29 girls has been named in the Queensland Under 18 State Team selected to represent Queensland at the upcoming National Championships.

The Championships will feature the country’s most talented under 18 female footballers, some of whom may become the next generation of AFLW stars.

The 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Girls will again feature six teams. Queensland, South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia will all compete, along with the Allies, which will comprise players from the ACT, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Tasmania.

Queensland will get their campaign underway on Saturday July 15 taking on South Australia at Adelaide Oval, before taking on Victoria Country at Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday July 30.

They’ll then meet the Allies at Heritage Bank Stadium on the Gold Coast on Sunday August 6 for their final game of the 2023 Championships.

Queensland Talent Manager, Mark Browning, said it was a talented young squad who would represent Queensland.

“We’ve got a really strong group of girls this year, some who could go on to play AFLW,” he said.

“Being selected is a reward for their efforts and performance – it’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to play at high level venues against some quality opposition.

“It’s also a huge testament to both the Lions and SUNS Academies, as well as the state league and community clubs.

“Both academies have recently won all three of their Coates Talent League Games, so I have no doubt the girls are very well prepared.”

At the conclusion of the 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Girls each team will select their MVP, with an overall MVP and All Australian team to also be selected by a selection panel comprising AFL Talent Pathways staff and AFLW recruiters.
