Records tumble at the Queensland NAB AFL Draft Combine

Townsville’s Thuringowa Bulldogs and now Yeronga South Brisbane player, Madison Goodwin, has dominated the Queensland NAB AFLW Draft Combine, as state-based combines take place around the country.

The Devils player set a new all-time record in the vertical jump, jumping 64cm in the standing test, breaking the previous record of 61cm shared by Giant’s Jess Allan (2017) and former West Coast Eagle Julie-Anne Norrish (2020).

Her running vertical jumps were impressive too; securing third and fifth all-time scores for her right and left foot jumps respectively.

After just her second season of footy, recent QAFLW Premiership player (with the University of Queensland), Steph O’Brien put her netball skills to use and smashed the speed and agility tests.

As well as gunning to secure a spot with the Brisbane Lions or Gold Coast SUNS in next Tuesday’s NAB AFLW Draft, the 27-year-old is the USQ Ipswich Jets netball co-captain, in the Hart Sapphire Series.

Bond University’s Teagan Levi, younger sister of Gold Coast SUNS player Maddi Levi, also put in strong performances across the board.

Her jump of 62cm in the standing vertical jump broke the national record, before fellow Queenslander Madison Goodwin went two centimetres better.

While her running vertical left foot jump (70cm) was equal fifth all-time, just five centimetres short of sister Maddi’s all-time record.

She was just 0.01 seconds shy of O’Brien’s score in the 20m sprint (3.29) and second in the agility test.

Queensland can now lay claim to four (of six) all-time records.

Maddi, who is currently on route to Tokyo to represent Australia in Rugby 7s at the upcoming Olympic Games, still has the all-time records in the running vertical jump, left foot and 20m sprint. While Darling Downs product and now Brisbane Lions player Zimmorlei Farquharson has the record for agility, she set in 2020.
