AFL Queensland has set up a special advisory committee to help oversee development in the key area of school football.
According to AFLQ School Programs Manager Nathan Gilliland, the group will be an important strategic ally and “a critical friend” in the expansion of the game in this area.
“School football is a huge potential growth area for the game and we need people with specific skill sets involved in the planning and strategic phase,” said Gilliland.
“So, we have hand-picked seven people, each with a definite area of expertise and a passion for football, who will be positive and competent advocates for Australian football as an educational vehicle within Queensland schools.
“With their help we’ll look to adopt a pro-active stance in this area of operation rather than responding to trends.”
Members of the inaugural AFL Queensland Education Advisory Board to assist and advise our organisation to best meet the contemporary needs of education are:-
* Matthew Francis – Redland AFLQ coach and Griffith University education student.
* Anthony Mueller – Faith Lutheran College Principal.
* Ross Allen – Caloundra State High School teacher.
* Sue Monsen – University of Queensland Associate Lecturer (PE Teacher Education).
* Liam Smith – Rochedale State School Principal.
* Jacqui Parker – Greenbank State School Deputy Principal.
* Greg McMahon – Narangba Valley State High School – AFL School of Excellence Co-Ordinator.
