The Australia Post Queensland Scorpions have identified post-game recovery as a critical component in their campaign for improved results in the second half of their NAB Australian U18 Championships campaign.

Coming off losses to division one teams South Australia and Vic Metro, the Scorpions are looking forward to three games against division two opponents – Northern Territory at Metricon Stadium (Saturday 25 June), NSW/ACT at Visy Park (Saturday 2 July) and Tasmania at Skilled Stadium (Thursday 7 July).

Looking to maximize physical performance ahead of three games in 13 days is Scorpions High Performance Manager Adrian Cois.

He says that, in addition to post training and game nutrition, hydration monitoring and ice baths, the Scorpions have found great support in GPSports and Bodizone Nutrition, who have supplied the team with GPS and sports supplements for the championships.

“We have been supplied with 10 real time GPS units which allow us to track distances covered, total sprint distances and intensity among other things in real time,” said Cois.

“Having use of the GPS technology is taking our monitoring of player training loads to a new level this year and gives our coaching staff some great feedback about how the players are shaping up week to week and how they are performing on game day,” he said.

“The use of the GPS technology takes our performance analysis systems to a level of professionalism closer to that of a professional AFL club, giving our players great exposure to systems used at the top level.”

Another vital component to the performance and recovery of the players, says Cois, is their post training and game nutrition.

“The 2011 Scorpions have been lucky enough to be sponsored by Jason Woodforth from Bodizone Sports Supplements in Geebung who have supplied the team with post training and game recovery supplements,” he said.

“We have been given branched chain amino acids for post training which have been really successful in reducing our player’s muscle soreness post games, which is really important to us considering our intense travel schedule and tight turn around between games, especially towards the end of the tournament.”

Cois, on behalf of AFLQ, says he would like to thank the support of both GPSports and Bodizone Sports Supplements, whose resources have raised the bar for professionalism within the Scorpions program and will undoubtedly give the players the best opportunity to perform at this optimum for the remainder of the championships.
