On Saturday, four aspiring female coaches had the opportunity to experience an AFL match day between the SUNS and Saints, from start to finish through the She Can Coach program during Women’s Coaching Month.
SUNS AFLW Coach Cameron Joyce talked through pre-match opposition analysis and coaching themes. Each of the women were assigned a line (defence, midfield, offence) and throughout the day Cam asked questions on key match ups and game trends.
All coaches had access to Champion Data which encouraged evidence-based decision making.
At the conclusion of the day, a mock press conference was held where questions were directed to the line coaches.
The practical experience of a match day was invaluable for all coaches. Well done to all involved:
Tammie Lauretsen – Morningside
Emily Otto – Bond University / Burleigh
Tarryn Meyer – Aspley
Alyssa Beasley – Kenmore
Cameron Joyce – Head Coach
Julian Van Den Driest – Coach Mentor
Jack Barry – Facilitator
Grace Winch – Media
A big thankyou to the Gold Coast SUNS AFLW team organized by Fiona Sessarago for her support of the program and the team at Coach AFL in delivering an experience for women in coaching.
