The Under 17 Southern Stars have finalised their squad of 24 for the upcoming Under 17 KooGa Youth Girls State Championships to be held in Cairns in October.
The Stars squad is a combination of Youth Girls from the Gold Coast, Darling Downs and Northern Rivers regions.
Southern Stars finished as State Runners-Up in 2011 and are looking to go one further in 2012.
2012 Under 18 Queensland representatives Isabelle Baldock, Jade Loch (Darling Downs) and Naomi Simpson (Northern Rivers) return for the 2012 campaign and are joined by girls from across all three regions.
Program Coordinator Jeff Neumann said he was impressed with the 2012 squad of 24 girls.
“On paper and from what I have seen at training so far, the side is a lot stronger and the big bonus is a majority of the girls from last year have returned,” said Jeff..
“We have a well balanced side again, with talls, mediums and smalls and no doubt we will give the championships a good challenge in October.”
The Stars aren’t just focussed on going one better but are keen to develop girls and have them selected for the 2013 Under 18 Queensland side.
“Looking at what I’ve seen, we probably within a good chance to get anywhere from 6 to 10 State representatives if not more,” Stars Coordinator Jeff said on the sides possible State hopefuls.
“Our focus isn’t just about winning and getting Queensland representatives, our number one focus is turning these young ladies into better footballers and better people”
