Brisbane Boys’ College have had one of their most successful starts to an interschool footy in recent years.
With the current GPS Division of the Queensland Independent Schools Cup almost half way through, College are leading four of the five divisions they are playing in.
The First XVIII competition saw College defeat Nudgee in a thriller at Zillmere earlier in the season, and they followed it up with a convincing win over Churchie.
Their Year 8’s are also undefeated with their Second XVIII and Year 10 teams also currently on top of their respective ladders.
Nudgee has been consistent with the sport drawing large numbers to participate in the Term Two competition, and proves to be an excellent pre-season for rugby players.
The blue and whites have even converted the international market, fielding a PNG team in the Second XVIII Division.
Churchie will travel Wednesday to Zillmere, taking on Nudgee for their First XVIII Foundation Cup match starting at 5:15pm.
The Foundation Cup is contested annually between the previous year’s grand finalists, and this year Churchie will be hoping to avenge their grand final loss to their north side rivals.
State High has been the big improvers this season, fielding multiple teams for the first time in the GPS Division. They will take on College in both the First XVIII competition Wednesday, and in the Year 9 competition on Friday. Both games will be played at Yeronga 5:15pm.
The season will culminate in the annual Grand Final Night at Yeronga, Friday 30th May starting 4:30pm. All five divisions will play off for their premierships under lights, with the First XVIII highlighting the evening with their 7:00pm match.
