As the AFL heads to Adelaide this weekend, there’s plenty of footy to watch in Brisbane and the Gold Coast with the clubs hosting their very own Gather Rounds right here in the Sunshine State.
This Friday, Heritage Bank Stadium will host the Under 16 National Talent Championships on Friday with the Gold Coast SUNS taking on Tasmania and the Brisbane Lions playing Northern Territory. Then the Superstars take the big stage with approximately 350 kids from Gold Coast and Northern Rivers community clubs taking part in a VIP Carnival followed by an NAB AFL Auskick Party. The day will wrap up with the Gold Coast SUNS’ AFL game against Fremantle on the big screen for all to watch.
Then on Saturday, catch all the community footy, VFL, QAFLW and AFL action at Brighton Homes Arena in a jam-packed day of all you can watch footy. The Superstars kick things off with more than 400 kids from Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, and Brisbane South community clubs taking part in the VIP Carnival from 9am followed by the VFL clash between Queensland rivals Brisbane Lions and Southport Sharks from 12.05pm. Sit back and watch the Lions and North Melbourne AFL game on the big screen and then stick around for the opening round of the QAFLW Competition – the highly anticipated grand final rematch between UQ and Southport Sharks.
Head of AFL Queensland Trish Squires said she was looking forward to a big weekend of footy.
“With the Lions and SUNS playing in Adelaide this weekend for Gather Round, it gave us the chance to give our community clubs the opportunity to play on big stages at Heritage Bank Stadium and Brighton Homes Arena,” Ms Squires said.
“It will be fantastic to see hundreds of Superstars and Auskickers running around the stadiums, I know it will be something they remember in years to come.”
Superstars footy is a super fun, social and safe AFL Development Program for boys and girls who have graduated from the NAB AFL Auskick Program where they can further develop their football, social skills, and match play in a local club environment before officially joining Footy4Fun (Junior Club Football) in Under 8.5s.
