One of the best players not to play AFL football developed in Tasmania is champing at the bit to play against the Queenslanders on Saturday.
Scott Stephens has twice been penciled in to take on the Maroons in recent seasons but each time has been ruled out through injury.
The 27-year-old is determined to make the most of his opportunity on the Gold Coast.
“I’ve never played a proper senior State game, so it is something I’m really looking forward to,” Stephens told The Hobart Mercury.
“It is a completely different feeling, just the intensity of State training was quite frenetic.
“It was a really good vibe.
“The boys really embrace it and get around it and want to do well and want to actually play for the State, it is really good.”
The dashing midfielder sits high up in voting in the Tasmania State League player of the year award voting as a show of his ominous form.
Leaders Zane Murphy and Brett Geappen aren’t available, but next-best Cameron Thurley and Stephens are, along with the much-respected veteran Ken Hall and Sam O’Keeffe.
