The countdown is on for the AFL9s Byron Bay Invitational

The countdown is on once again for the AFL9s Byron Bay Invitational which kicks off in a fortnight’s time across October 26 and 27.

The yearly event, now in its 6th year, combined the fast, fun free flowing game of AFL9s with the relaxed vibe of one of the country’s most iconic beachside location.

Across the weekend, 29 teams will congregate at Byron Bay’s Cavanbah Centre – just a 15-minute drive from the most easterly point of the Australian continent.

The two-day event will see teams from all across Australia compete for the chance to win $10,000 worth of prize money across both mixed and masters divisions.

AFL Queensland Schools and AFL9s Programs Coordinator Kat Julius is excited to be involved in this year’s event.

“We’re thrilled to once again offer the Invitational for AFL9s teams across Australia to promote the social nature of AFL9s,” Julius said.

“The weekend is about getting away to not only play footy with mates but to also enjoy one of the country’s most beautiful locations. This year’s Byron Bay AFL9s Invitational will offer teams some extra off-field fun.”

AFL9s is the AFL’s social version of the game – a fast, modified game that involves nine players on each team playing on a modified field.

Off the field, food, live music and the Eximm player’s lounge will operate throughout the event for both participants and spectators.

Teams in both the masters and mixed divisions had the opportunity to nominate for either the Max or Mellow competitions, which offer differing levels of competitiveness throughout the weekend.

This year’s competition will also be officiated by some of AFL Queensland’s most promising umpires – headlined by several names who are developing in the state umpiring academy.
