Mark your calendars – the Byron AFL9s Invitational is BACK in 2022!
Against the iconic backdrop of the world-famous Byron Bay, the two-day carnival will see teams from across Australia come together to compete for up to $20,000 worth of prize money across mixed, women and men’s divisions. And have a bit of fun while doing it!
Incorporating all of the things Byron is well-known for; surf, sand, sun and celebrities*, it’s guaranteed to be a splendid weekend on the grass. *Status of celebrity from Byron Bae to Hollywood royalty not guaranteed.
Participation and Programs Manager – Regional Queensland and Byron Bay AFL9s Invitational Manager, Kieran Daley, said after a two-year hiatus, the carnival would be played on October 28th and 29th, 2022.
“I am absolutely pumped to announce AFL Queensland will once again host the Byron Invitational,” he said.
“The 9-a-side game provides a fast, free-flowing game to players seeking a social, non-contact alternative that is fun for all ages, genders and skill-levels, and is played on a smaller field.
“Food vans, live music and an alfresco lounge bar gives the competitions a festival feel, which culminates in a Saturday afternoon of finals.
“Whether you are a footy team looking to enjoy an end of season trip, a seasoned AFL9s campaigner or a group of mates wanting to enjoy a kick and sometime in the sun, there is a division available for you.”
Daley said he was thrilled to have Eximm supporting the event.
“Eximm have been huge supporters of the Byron Bay AFL9s Invitational in the past and it’s great to have them back on board as our major partner.”
The action will take place at the Cavanbah Centre; a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility on Ewingsdale Rd.
Registrations are now open – good vibes a certainty.
Mixed
It’s all about the competition and the glory of winning! For those who think they’re competitive enough to take out the title. Minimum of three women on field at a time.
Masters Max
It’s all about the competition and the glory of winning! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (plus 2 x players per squad between 30 and 35 at time of event)
Masters Mellow
It’s all about the fun of playing with your mates, winning is just a bonus! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (sorry, no youngins!)
Masters Seasoned
It’s all about the fun playing with the old boys. Open to men aged 45+ at the time of the event. More salt than pepper!
Yeah the gals
Have some fun with the gals – winning is a bonus. Women only. Aged 18+.
