Sun, surf, sand and… footy! Mark your calendars – the Eximm Sport Byron AFL Nines is back in 2023.
The fun-filled two-day carnival will see teams from all around Australia come together across four divisions to compete for up to $15,000 worth of prize money.
The annual event, now in its ninth year, will be take place over October 27 and 28 at the Cavanbah Centre– a state-of the-art sporting facility just a few kilometres from Byron Bay’s Main Beach.
AFL Queensland Alternative Formats & Analytics Lead, Brad Howard said the event was the highlight of the year for many returning teams.
“The nine-a-side game provides a fast, free-flowing game to players seeking a social, non-contact alternative that is fun for all ages, genders and skill-levels, and is played on a smaller field,” he said.
“The whole vibe of the weekend is always so much fun. Teams have already been enquiring about the date for this year so they can secure a spot.”
“Off the field there’s music, food trucks and an alfresco area, and we will be looking to add to that this year.”
“Whether you’re an experienced AFL Niner or just looking for a fun weekend with mates, there’s divisions to suit all abilities.”
The competition welcomes Eximm Sport back this year as the naming rights sponsor – a huge boost for the comp.
“Eximm Sport have been huge supporters of Byron AFL Nines over the past few years, so it’s fantastic to have them as our new naming rights sponsor,” Howard said.

Mixed
Men and women combined as well as a mix of fun and competition. Minimum of three women on field at a time.
Masters Max
It’s all about the competition and the glory of winning! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (plus 2 x players per squad between 30 and 35 at time of event)
Masters Mellow
It’s all about the fun of playing with your mates, winning is just a bonus! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (sorry, no youngins!)
Masters Seasoned
It’s all about the fun playing with the old boys. Open to men aged 45+ at the time of the event. More salt than pepper!
