The Under 18 Div 2 Central competition finals kicked off on the weekend with two games at Toowoomba’s Rockville Oval.
The first game saw two Brisbane teams battle it out for the right to play in the Preliminary Final; both sides wanting to travel back down the Warrego Highway after their game victorious.
Yeronga South Brisbane eventually came out on top with the younger less experienced Alexandra Hills team showing that they will be a force to be reckoned with in season 2013.
Star Players for Yeronga were Brodie Wilson and Gram Whitton who bagged 4 goals for the day. Alexandra Hills tried hard all day and were serviced well by Jackson Hartley and Alex Isdale with Corey Bastian being held to just the 2 majors.
The league Leading goal kicker and best and Fairest awards were announced in the break between games.
The Leading Goalkicker for season 2012 was awarded to Corey Bastian (Alexandra Hills) who ended the home and away season with 45 Goals.
The Best and Fairest votes were calculated through the week and the outcome was a tie. Lachlan Dignan (Darling Downs) and Brodie Wilson (Yeronga Sth Brisbane) each polled well with 16 votes each.
These three players will be presented with their awards at the Duncanson/Todd Award Night later this month.
The second game of the day saw the minor premiers take on last year’s premiers for a week off and a grand final berth.
Up until three- quarter time there was no more than two kicks in what was a see-saw battle of a game.
In the 4th quarter the Darling Downs team showed their home fans what to look forward to on Grand Final day when they kicked away and completed the win by 6 goals.
League Best and Fairest Lachlan Dignan again inspirational around the ground, but ably supported by Thomas Wainwright and Jack Rockliff.
Kenmore tried valiantly all day against the minor premiers with a tireless effort by Ben Leeds, Harry Baldwin and Liam Rooks.
This week see’s the Preliminary Final between Kenmore and Yeronga Sth Brisbane at Logan AFC (Tansey Park) 11.00am Sunday 12th August. Match Preview will be online on Friday.
