Tuesday 4 May 2011

The Gold Coast Suns’ new home at Metricon Stadium will host the only ‘home’ match for the Australia Post Queensland Scorpions in the 2011 NAB Australian U18 Championships.

Under a championships draw released today, the Scorpions will play the Northern Territory on the coast in Round 3 on Saturday 25 June.

The match will be a curtain-raiser to the Suns’ Round 14 AFL clash with the Western Bulldogs.

The Scorpions, looking to improve on last year’s winless campaign, will play five championship games over a 34-day period, beginning against division one heavyweights South Australia and Victoria Metro, and finishing with division two rivals NT, NSW/ACT and Tasmania.

The Scorpions’ championship draw is:-

Game 1 – SA – Blacktown – Saturday 4 June
Game 2 – Vic Metro – Visy Park (Carlton) – Saturday 11 June
Game 3 – NT – Metricon Stadium (Gold Coast) – Saturday 25 June
Game 4 – NSW/ACT – Visy Park (Carlton) – Saturday 2 July
Game 5 – Tasmania – Etihad Stadium – Thursday 7 July

The championship will follow a three-game TAC Cup practice match series which began last Saturday with a hit-out against TAC Cup ladder leaders Sandringham Dragons at Visy Park.

Upcoming matches will be against the Dandenong Stingrays at Shepley Oval, Dandenong on Saturday 7 May, and the Calder Cannons at 11.15am at Coorparoo on Saturday 14 May, which will be a curtain-raiser to the NEAFL clash between the Brisbane Lions Reserves and the Greater Western Sydney Giants at 2pm.
