The Under 18 Youth Girls Flames are all set and ready to go in the Inaugural Under 18 Youth Girls State Championships, to be held this weekend at Yeronga.
The combined team of Brisbane and Sunshine Coast had their final training on Tuesday night, followed by their Jumper Presentation.
The team will be under the watchful eye of Morningside midfielder Stuart Seager, ably assisted by AFL Queensland’s Brisbane South Region Administration Officer Damien Richards.
Former Under 18 Youth Girls State team captain Jess Croft will manage the team, with two-time All-Australian Katie Brennan doing the running for the Flames.
“It is great to be involved in the Inaugural Championships and have such a fantastic group of girls,” said Seager.
“They have been highly committed at training and impressed me greatly over the past month.”
“I am looking forward to the weekend and seeing the girls put all of their hard work into practice.
“They are a talented group of girls. with many of them having the potential to go on and play for their state at the nationals in September on the Gold Coast.”
Zillmere’s Rosie Pyke has been named captain of the side despite being only 15, with Yeronga’s Caitlin Collins and Emily Bates the vice-captains.
The Flames also have experience in their team, with 2010 Queensland Youth Girls State team members Emily Wastle and Amanda Whitehead from Yeronga included in the side.
The Flames play Central Coast Cobras at 4.30pm on Friday 15 July 2011 at Yeronga, and play the Southern Stars at 10.00am on Saturday 16 July 2011. The Carnival will finish on Sunday.
