The Queensland Government has extended lockdown until 4pm, Sunday 8 August for 11 local government area (LGAs) in South East Queensland.
AFL Queensland is providing the following update based on the direction from the Queensland Government and health authorities;
Community Football
AFL Queensland has determined that all senior and youth community club football matches that were unable to be played last weekend (31/1st) and the weekend coming (6/7/8th) in South East Queensland competitions have been cancelled.
Consistent with the last lockdown, any team that was scheduled to play will receive two (2) premiership points. A team on a bye will not receive points. The results of any games that were completed last weekend shall stand.
All teams that were scheduled to play can submit a team sheet for the purposes of finals eligibility.
In recognising that all youth competitions and several senior competitions will not play again before finals commence, the finals will proceed as scheduled and the ladders at the end of the home and away season will determine the clubs that compete in the finals series.
Consideration was given to whether an extension to the season was practical, however with numerous factors at play, including people having predetermined commitments in place beyond scheduled grand final dates, ground availability and school holidays, a decision has been made to adopt a consistent approach across all affected competitions.
All AFL Queensland grand finals will be played as scheduled at the commencement of the season. In the event of further restrictions which don’t allow finals games to be played, adjustments will be made accordingly and communicated to all stakeholders.
AFL Queensland acknowledges all clubs are affected differently by any decision regarding cancelled matches and finals. However, a consistent approach in managing this across all competitions was the most appropriate way forward.
Training sessions scheduled for the lockdown period must be cancelled.
Programs and Participation
All programs, including the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup, Auskick and Superstars, scheduled for the lockdown period will not proceed.
