AFL Queensland wishes to express its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Heather Green, as well as to the entire Darling Downs football community, following her passing.
Heather was a true pioneer and icon of Australian rules football in the Darling Downs. Her dedication, leadership, and passion for growing the game—especially for women and juniors—have left an indelible mark on the community.
Heather’s outstanding contributions were recognised with Life Membership of AFL Darling Downs in 2012 and being named the inaugural AFL Queensland ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2014.
Heather’s journey through Australian rules football was a testament to her unwavering commitment. Her influence extended beyond a single club; she held various positions within the wider Darling Downs clubs, significantly shaping the sport’s development in the region.
Heather’s legacy is immortalized through the Heather Green Medal, awarded annually to the Best and Fairest player in the Women’s League. This honour is a fitting tribute to a woman whose tireless efforts and passion for the game have inspired countless others.
Heather’s impact on AFL Darling Downs is immeasurable, and her memory will continue to inspire future generations. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know and work with her.
Vale Heather Green; you will be greatly missed.
