The Brisbane Lions will host the Southport Sharks in the VFL second qualifying final at Moreton Bay Sporting Complex on Saturday at 1:35pm.
Brisbane go into the game as favourites. They defeated the previously undefeated Casey Demons last week in their last home and away game to finish second on the VFL ladder.
Southport endured a form slump in the last month of the home and away season, dropping three of their last four matches.
They gained some confidence last week though, defeating Coburg by 106 points.
Last time these two sides met, the Sharks defeated the Lions 36 points, so it is anyone’s game.
This will be the fourth time the clubs have played against each other this year if you include their two pre-season matches. So, they know each other well.
The last time they played against each other in a final was the NEAFL 2019 Grand Final which the Brisbane Lions won by 76 points.
Southport will be looking for a different result on Saturday.
Meanwhile, The Gold Coast SUNS will begin their inaugural VFL finals campaign against the Box Hill Hawks at Metricon Stadium crowd Sunday at 6:05pm.
The SUNS finished the season in fifth placed, with 12 wins, six losses for the year, while Box Hill sit eighth on 11 wins – showing how tightly contested the VFL season was.
It is free to attend both games, and you can watch the games live and free via afl.com.au and the AFL Live App.
It is the first time all three teams will play in a VFL Finals game, which is exciting for Queensland football.
