Villanova College have claimed the 2022 Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) First XVIII Senior Australian Rules Football Premiership after defeating Padua College in a nail biter on Friday night.
Their 5.9-39 to 6.1-37 win resulting in an undefeated season and secures them a direct ticket to the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup state quarter finals to be played later in the year (August 3, 2022).
Joint runners up Padua College and St Laurence’s College will also get the chance to make the state school football finals.
St Laurence’s College will play the Metro South/Darling Downs Senior Male Runner Up in a Qualifier.
Padua College will play the Metro North/Wide Bay Male Runner Up in a Qualifier.
These games are scheduled for Wednesday July 27 at Yeronga.
In the primary ranks, St Laurence’s College finished on top guaranteeing the 6As a spot in the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup state finals in October.
The AIC competition, in its 6th year, saw a 40% increase in participants in 2022.
More than 1,400 boys laced up their boots with all member schools, and Ambrose Treacy College, taking part.
