The Brisbane South Vixens held off a fast-finishing Gold Coast Sunsets outfit by just one point, to claim the 2014 Youth Girls State Championships.
The Vixens kicked the only point of the first quarter, and it was a crucial one in the end, as they ran out 4.5 (29) – 4.4 (28) winners.
In a congested first term, both teams’ defence stood solid, but the match opened up as time ticked on.
The Vixens stretched their lead to eight points at half-time, with a strong quarter from captain, Jade Ransfield.
Gold Coast fought back in the second half, as the sides traded goals to open the third term.
The Sunsets booted the first goal in the last term, before a sensational goal from Brisbane South’s Gabby Collingwood in the 12th minute put the Vixens in the box seat.
Gold Coast found themselves with the footy with just seconds remaining, but couldn’t quite finish off, as the siren beat them to the punch.
