The Brisbane Flames have continued their unbeaten run with a convincing 90 point win over the Southern Stars (Gold Coast, Darling Downs & Northern Rivers) at the Under 18 Youth Girls State Championships at Yeronga AFC.
In the Southern Stars first game, they came out against a confident outfit in the Flames with a 5 goal 1 to no score first quarter.
The second quarter was much the same as the Southerners failed to adapt to the slippery wet conditions to be trailing 11.3.69 to 0.2.2 at halftime.
After a rousing halftime address from Stars Coach Jeff Neumann and some well thought out change ups, the Southern Stars put in a great second half to restrict the Flames’ forwards to only 3 goals.
The Flames however ran out big winners 14.10.94 to 0.4.4 with Tayla Harris (pictured), Kristenne Hudson and Amanda Whitehead all kicking 2 goals each.
The multicultural goal umpiring group has been kept busy by the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast team over the last few days. Today the group was represented with students from Taiwan and from Colombia.
Tomorrow’s game between the Central Coast Cobras and Southern Stars will be overseen by an all-female umpiring Panel with the inclusion of an all-female Multicultural Goal Umpiring Group.
Following the game will be the presentations for the Championships with Gold Coast Suns Female Ambassador Josh Fraser in attendance.
