Wily Mt Gravatt veteran Darryl White will expand his coaching horizons by guiding Darwin in the coming NTFL season.
White has played winter and summer for the last five years, since retiring from the AFL after a glittering career with the Brisbane Lions.
He played six of the first seven games this winter with Mt Gravatt, but has been heavily involved with coaching duties with the Northern Territory side participating in the nab National Under 18 Championships over the past six weeks.
White will share co-coaching of the Buffaloes with former premiership player Damien Zammitt.
“I think we can win between eight and 12 games, with 10 the magic number in regards to making the finals,” White told the Northern Territory News.
“I’ll be playing for the club for at least the next three years to make that happen, while Damien will look after things off the field.
“We want Darwin to become the powerhouse club it was 20 years ago and we’ll be working very hard to make that happen.”
White, 37, wants to play with the Buffaloes until he is 40, a task he says is not beyond him.
“I reckon I’ve got a few years left in me,” he said. “From there I’ll move into coaching full-time, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
White will be back in Mt Gravatt colours when his junior coaching commitments conclude.
The Vultures have a bye this weekend.
