CADBURY AFL 9S CORPORATE CHALLENGE
Seventy AFL 9s players from the Gold Coast business world played a round-robin series before enjoying an informal BBQ dinner with Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS players.
DRAFT WEEK COMBINE
The AFL Combine program is designed to provide athletes from non-AFL and AFL backgrounds with the opportunity to participate in and learn about our elite player pathways.
Over 200 attendees from various programs including indigenous, multicultural, Brisbane Lions/Gold Coast SUNS rookie search, Schools of Excellence and female football were put through their paces at Metricon Stadium in combine specific tests such as vertical jump, 20m sprints, handball and kicking.
AFL LEVEL 2 COACHING COURSE
Ninety coaches attended the two-day Level 2 Coaching Course which is conducted through AFL Queensland as part of the national coaching program.

Kevin Sheehan, Bo Hanson (Athlete Assessment- Former Olympian), Ben Matthews and Andrew Johnston (GC SUNS Development Coaches), Tim McKinley (Morningside AFC), Scott Borlace (Brisbane Lions Academy head coach), Murray Davis (Brisbane Lions Development Coach), Lawrie Woodman (National Coaching & Umpiring Manager), Ben Ryan (AFL Umpire), Joey Hayes (GC Stingrays), Adrian Fletcher (Brisbane Lions Assistant Coach), Alex Clarke (Brisbane Lions Strength/Rehab Coach) and Jack Barry (AFLQ Coaching and Volunteer Manager) and Jim Urquhart (AFLQ Talent Development Officer).
AFL TALENT IDENTIFICATION COURSE
Searching for an AFL Star is a full-time profession for scores of recruiting personnel at the AFL Level. Thousands of others have an enormous impact on the lives of aspirants as they scout and select AFL Talent Squads at local, regional, state and national level.
The 50 attendees enjoyed sessions including ‘finding the next star’, ‘assembling a list’ and ‘using combines to attract talent’
Feedback from attendees said they particularly benefitted from and enjoyed sessions with former AFL players such as Craig Starcevich and Mark Browning.
Sessions were also presented by GC SUNS Recruiting Manager Dom Ambrogio, Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy Manager Luke Curran and AFL National and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan.
