SWISSE QUALITY CLUB PROGRAM
• The Quality Club Program is AFL Queensland’s foremost club development initiative for the growth and support of community football
• Dual outcomes: 1) recognising exceptional club development and 2) further challenging volunteers to improve administration and club environment
• AFL has re-launched Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditation. Club receive rewards for successful accreditation including a $1,500 training resource pack and national coaching conference tickets
• Currently 53 Bronze and 14 Silver accredited clubs
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION
• New statewide online nomination process making awards accessible to all
• Peers, parents, clubs and leagues can nominate volunteers and coaches any time of the year via their league’s website
• Awards culminate to the prestigious AFL Queensland Volunteer and Coaches State Awards Dinner
• Deion Menzies, AFLBJ League President, named 2013 Volunteer of the Year, winning a trip for 2 to the AFLGF and walked in the Grand Final parade.
• The AFL Merit Award recognises outstanding services to the game. 2013 recipients are Michael McCormick (Gold Coast) and John Durkin (Townsville)
UMPIRING
• Queensland has reached 1,300 registered umpires for the first time, consisting of 786 league appointed umpires and 520 club based umpires
• Key recruiting program in Junior Football Umpiring Program (club based recruitment of umpires for U8s – U11s) now rolled out in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Darling Downs, Wide Bay, Mackay, Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Northern Rivers and Cairns
• Club Umpire Program in South East Queensland senior football has expanded to over 50 participants
• Talent pathway reviewed with an Umpiring Academy set up in North Queensland for the first time
MULTICULTURAL
• Delivery of the Multicultural Schools Program (MSP) and MSP Cup in the South East to over 1,500 participants (15 teams involved in MSP / Diversity Cup)
• Four Queenslanders selected in 2013 World Team that competed in the NAB U16 National Championships
• Gold Coast SUNS Diversity breakfast delivered at Metricon Stadium, 100 attendees
• Multicultural Round celebrated across the state – highlights included engaging 1,200 multicultural stakeholders in ticket offer to Brisbane v North Melbourne game at the ‘Gabba
• Delivery of inaugural Bachar Houli Cup Secondary School Competition
• Appointment of Multicultural Development Coordinator
• Delivery of Inaugural Unity Cup Diversity Carnival
INDIGENOUS
• Townsville hosted the National U15 Kickstart Championships
• Established a successful inaugural state U18 Female Kickstart side, finishing 3rd at inaugural U18 National Female Kickstart Championships. 7 selected in Flying Boomerangs Squad
• Conducted High performance testing (Kickstart Combines) in each region across the state, testing over 650 indigenous students (up from 120 in 2012)
• Incorporated AFL clinics (Auskick, AFL 9s, Kickstart testing) in each term of the school year at the Murri school, making AFL selected sport by students
• Successfully conducted a GC SUNS Cup match on Palm Island between Kirwan SS and a combined Palm Island U12 side
• Goori AFL challenge successfully run in Casino with 100 students from 4 schools attending the event
• AFL Cape York House established, providing opportunities for boys from indigenous communities to further develop their education and football talents.

• Level 1 Junior - Role of the coach, understanding of the rules, SPIR teaching method
• Level 1 Youth - Age appropriate 13-17yo coaching, focus on skill, game day environment and umpiring
• Level 1 Senior - Senior community coaches, coaching adults, drills and skill development
• Level 2 Youth/Senior - 2 day course with season diary and mentor required
• Level 3 Senior - Invitation only. AFL, NEAFL and talent coaches in a week-long high performance course
• Master Class (Coaching Updates)
are available around Queensland as professional development from AFL and leading industry coaching staff
SCHOOLS
• Queensland has the largest school participation in Australia
• Over 100,000 primary and secondary students played AFL in 2013 via our school competitions and school programs of six weeks or more
• Students have the opportunity to compete in the state-wide competitions: Brisbane Lions Cup and Gold Coast SUNS Cup
• Competitions are modified at different age groups to ensure students of all ages and abilities can participate
• Subsidies are offered to schools annually to assist with purchasing AFL jumpers, goal posts and post padding
• Over 480 teachers engaged as School Ambassadors to drive our game from within
FEMALE FOOTBALL
• First AFL draft for females and game played on the MCG – Melbourne v Western Bulldogs
• Seven Queensland girls drafted in inaugural AFL match
• AFL Women’s Round curtain raiser on Metricon Stadium
• 73% increase in club numbers
• Cairns Hosted Women’s National
Championship
• Placed 3rd in this championship
• Competed at U18 Youth Girls Nationals, Queensland placed 3rd
• One Senior and 4 U18 QLD players named in the All Australian sides

• Increased number of competitions throughout Queensland
• Increased presence at 1⁄2 time of AFL matches with three exhibition matches played (two at The Gabba, one at Metricon Stadium) including B105 v Celeb exhibition match at 1⁄2 time of Brisbane Lions v Collingwood match
• 7,056 participants (128% growth across Social and AASC participation)
