BIG NAMES COME OUT FOR MASTER CLASS SERIES
AFL Queensland coaches continue to invest time and energy into furthering their education with strong numbers once again attending sessions in 2013.
More than 50 courses were conducted across the state this year, ranging from Level One Junior to Level Two High Performance, as well as the successful AFL Queensland Master Class series, featuring presentations from current AFL coaching staff.
More than 1,500 participants attended our courses in 2013.
LEVEL 1
The entry level of Level One continues to be well supported by clubs, with close to 700 people becoming new coaches in 2013.
LEVEL 2
Well over 120 coaches attended the two-day Level Two course held at Metricon Stadium. The course was run in conjunction with our inaugural AFL Talent ID course, which attracted more than 50 participants.
Gold Coast SUNS assistant coaches, Mark Riley, Ben Matthews, Andrew Johnston and Brisbane Lions coaches, Adrian Fletcher, Murray Davis and Scott Borlace also gave up their time to lecture coaches at these sessions.
HIGH PERFORMANCE COURSE
This invite-only course was attended by three Queensland coaches in 2013: Ben Matthews (Gold Coast SUNS), Leigh Harding (Brisbane Lions) and Aaron Rogers (Morningside). Only 24 coaches from around Australia were selected to attend after undergoing a formal application process.
MASTER CLASS COACHING
In its second year, the Master Class coaching sessions have soared in popularity, with
AFL coaches passing
on intimate and best practice knowledge to our community coaches. This year, the sessions were held at Metricon Stadium, the Gabba,
and in regions such
as the Darling Downs, Townsville, Mackay and Cairns.
The following coaches all gave up their time to speak at these sessions on their various areas of expertise:
Gold Coast SUNS - Guy McKenna, Ben Matthews, Scott Clayton, Shaun Hart, Matthew Primus, Andy Lovell and Brett Munro
Brisbane Lions - Michael Voss, Mark Harvey, Shane Woewodin, Adrian Fletcher, Murray Davis, Gary O’Donnell and Leigh Harding
Richmond Tigers -Justin Leppitsch, Tom Hafey Hawthorn - Chris Fagan
