AFL 9s continued to spread throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales with 11 new venues hosting competitions, including Byron Bay, Warwick and Wide Bay.
BYRON BAY AFL 9S INVITATIONAL
The Byron Regional Sports and Cultural Complex played host to the inaugural Byron Bay AFL 9s Invitational in October, which saw 23 teams from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria converge on Byron Bay for a weekend of fast and fun footy.

Teams battled it out for $16,000 prize money with the Redland Bombers taking out the $8,000 prize in the men’s division.
The $4,000 women’s prize was taken out by Victorious Secret, made up of players from Melbourne Uni in the VWFL, while the Local Legends made sure the $4,000 mixed prize stayed in town.
SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NIGHT
After a bumper spring season of AFL 9s, local competition champions were given the chance to fight for bragging rights as the South East Queensland AFL 9s Champions, as well as $750 in prize money.
Music was playing around the ground and teams set up picnics for their half time breaks, making for a great night which saw Coorparoo mixed champions ‘The Ned Heads’ cruise through their games undefeated.
The men’s final was between Coorparoo victors ‘Four n Plenty’ and Zillmere crew ‘Eshay Clan’. Thirty minutes couldn’t separate the teams, and clearly exhausted after the match, both teams requested a ‘shoot out’ instead of extra time.
The teams went kick-for-kick until finally, after eight shots, the Eshay Clan converted to take out the crown.
JUNIOR AND YOUTH AFL 9S
2014 provided underage players with their first opportunity to get involved in AFL 9s, with youth and junior competitions run for the first time.
Rolled out during the summer months, the junior and youth competitions have been used to provide children of all ages and abilities a chance to get their footy fix year round.
Competitions were hosted at Collingwood Park, Springwood and Yeronga.
