NATIONAL KICKSTART
This program gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes the opportunity to develop the skills required to succeed within an elite AFL environment.
Players were selected from all over Queensland, representing many parts of the state including Yam Island in the Torres Strait.
Queensland finished fifth in the boys Kickstart Championship in Coffs Harbour and had four players selected in the Boomerangs squad. Queensland hosted the National Female Kickstart Carnival at Burpengary, the team finished third and had seven players selected in the national Woomeras squad.
GOORI CHALLENGE
Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural Goori Challenge in the Northern Rivers, this year’s event saw over 100 indigenous students playing in a round robin carnival day in Lismore, whilst also undergoing some AFL Combine Testing. This carnival day is a great way for the indigenous population in the Northern Rives to celebrate their culture.
