NEAFL » BLAKE GREWAR
Blake Grewar only had
to look around himself at last year’s NEAFL Awards
ceremony to realise how far he has come.
The Redland Bombers midfielder finished third in the
MVP voting, sandwiched between two-time Grogan medallist Matthew Payne (winner), Melbourne mature-age
draftee Aaron Vandenberg (second) and NEAFL representative captain Cameron Ilett
(fourth).
It was a true testament to his determination and meteoric rise up the NEAFL ranks since being cut from
Redland’s reserve premiership side in 2011.
Grewar bounced back from the disappointment to represent the NEAFL at under-21 level the following
year, before his most consistent season in 2014 earned him a spot in the NEAFL Team of the Year and runner-
up in the Bombers’ best-and-fairest.
A Rising Star nominee in 2013, Grewar possesses terrific evasive skills and reads the play well, having played over 50 NEAFL games and 100 club games in
his short career.
With the loss of so much experience at the Bombers in the off-season, the 22-year-old has taken on a
bigger role at the club this year as he looks to solidify his reputation as one of the premier midfielders of the
competition.
Grewar has since averaged 20 disposals, six clearances and six inside 50s per game to be rewarded with his first
senior NEAFL representative berth in 2015.
