Yeronga South Brisbane WAFC have earned themselves a place in the 2012 Women’s League Grand Final after defeating the Zillmere Eagles at Moorooka yesterday.
Trailing at quarter time for the first time this season, Yeronga had to fight hard to pull the game back.
Sandii Rixon and Tayla Harris were dominant for the Eagles in the ruck and forward line with their height and skill causing some issues for Yeronga.
Yeronga welcomed the return of Katie Brennan after her long stint on the sideline with injury.
She showed her return to almost match fitness with a solid performance across the half forward line.
Final scores were Yeronga/South Brisbane 9.8.62 defeat Zillmere 6.5.41.
In the other semi-final it was do or die for newcomers Pal m Beach Currumbin as they fought to keep their finals hopes alive.
Tailing by six goals at halftime, Palm Beach Currumbin looked all but out of the game.
However some inspiring words from Coach Wayne Davis put fire in the bellies of the Gold Coast team, kicking five unanswered goals in the third quarter.
Despite the solid “premiership quarter” PBC couldn’t reel in the Lions dominant first half, eventually losing by a solitary goal.
Final score was Kedron 9.4.58 defeat PBC 7.10.52.
Indy Sleeth, Kelsey Canuto and Tala Zanotti were best for PBC and Monique Lepri and Mica Cubis shone for Kedron.
Zillmere and Kedron will play-off for a Grand Final berth this Sunday at Tansey Park (Logan AFC) from 1pm.
