QUALITY CLUB PROGRAM
• The Quality Club Program is AFL Queensland’s foremost club development initiative for the growth and support of community football
• Dual outcomes: 1) recognising exceptional club development and 2) further challenging volunteers to improve administration and club environment
with 65 clubs undertaking accreditation.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION
• Peer nominated volunteer and coaching regional awards
• AFL Queensland Volunteer Awards Dinner for state volunteers and coaches
• Steve Barlow (AFL Wide Bay) named 2012 Volunteer of the Year, winning a trip to the AFL Grand Final
• The AFL Merit Award recognises outstanding services to the game. 2012 recipients were Michael O’Donoghue (Darling Downs) and Greg Kingston (Brisbane)

UMPIRING
• Approximately 1000 umpires needed across Queensland each weekend (field, boundary & goal)
• You can play and umpire (approx. 50% of youth umpires play and umpire on the same weekend)
• The Green Shirt Program supports umpires in their first year of umpiring in competitive age groups
• The Junior Football Umpiring Program provides
support for club umpires officiating in junior modified
rules competitions (U8’s – U11’s)
• The Club Umpire Program provides support and
training for club umpires in senior community football

MULTICULTURAL
• Multicultural Schools Program launched in Brisbane and the Gold Coast
• Partnered with the AFL and the Gold Coast SUNS to employ a fulltime Multicultural Programs Officer at the club and a part time AFL Multicultural Ambassador
• Delivered the International Student Program engaging over 100 students in 6 week introductory program. Over 200 attended an AFL game and 15 of these students went on to goal umpire community football
• GC SUNS players Karmichael Hunt & Joel Wilkinson assist with the delivery of key programs in this area

INDIGENOUS
• 3 Year deal with the Cathy Freeman Foundation (2012 -14) $20,000 per year, to run an AFL program on Palm Island
• Partnered with Queensland Government to employ 7 Indigenous Trainees – 5 of these have completed their traineeship through AFL SportsReady
• Coordinated 5 indigenous combines in targeted communities
• Established state wide Under 15 Queensland Kickstart Program – Under 15 Qld Kickstart camps and National Championships

SCHOOLS
• Queensland has the largest participation in Australia
• Over 93,500 primary and secondary students played
AFL in 2012 via our school competitions and school
programs of six weeks or more
• Students have the opportunity to compete in the
state-wide competitions: Brisbane Lions Cup and
Gold Coast SUNS Cup
• Competitions are modified at different age groups
to ensure students of all ages and abilities can
participate
• Subsidies are offered to schools annually to assist
with purchasing AFL jumpers, goal posts and post padding

version for AASC program

including grass, artificial turf and sand
• AFL9s focuses on fun, safety and participation

COACHING
• Level 0 - A beginners guide ideal for Auskick and coaches just starting out
• Level 1 Auskick - Basic introduction to coaching, fun based games and basic skills
• Level 1 Junior - Role of the coach, understanding of the rules, SPIR teaching method
• Level 1 Youth - Age appropriate 13-17yo coaching, focus on skill, game day environment and umpiring
• Level 1 Senior - Senior community coaches, coaching adults, drills and skill development
• Level 2 Youth/Senior - 2 day course with season diary and mentor required.
• Level 3 Senior - Invitation only. AFL, NEAFL and talent coaches in a week-long high performance course
• Master Class (Coaching Updates) are available around Queensland as professional development from AFL and leading industry coaching staff
