AFL CAPE YORK HOUSE
Another significant milestone in 2012 was the creation of AFL Cape York House.
Construction has commenced on the $5 million Cape York House facility in Cairns which will provide a unique opportunity for up-to 48 young Indigenous men to complete school in an environment that promotes education, leadership, career pathways and footy.
This project has become a reality as a result of the outstanding work accomplished by Rick Hanlon and the AFL Cape York team over many years, all of whom look forward to the first intake of students and anticipated opening of the facility in Term 1 2013.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
AFL Queensland continues to strengthen its relationship with indigenous communities across the state with the view to using football as a vehicle to drive community outcomes such as education, employment and health whilst to increasing Indigenous participation and talent outcomes for our great game.
In order to work towards these objectives we have received outstanding support from community partners in 2012. In particular we acknowledge the support of First Sun Employment, AFL SportsReady, Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF), Cathy Freeman Foundation and both State and Federal Government.
