GOLD COAST SUNS REPORT
The Win/Loss column has always been the logical way to judge a team’s season. The GC SUNS second season mirrored the teams’ inaugural year with three victories. However if you look deeper into the GC SUNS performance, a number of key statistics provide evidence that 2012 was a year of continued improvement.
This season the GC SUNS improved in many key areas which demonstrate the team is well and truly on the right path.
2012 SEASON AVERAGES
However it was the eight games of football between Rounds 15 and 22 that signalled the GC SUNS progress.
The team won three of the eight matches, winning 16 quarters during that time, equal with Carlton and the West Coast Eagles and two more than flag fancy Collingwood. During this period the GC SUNS percentage sat at 79%.
Most of the second year players this season showed strokes of brilliance, that included break out games from Steven May against the Hawks, Tom Lynch against Carlton and Harley Bennell’s match against Fremantle at Metricon Stadium to name a few.
Consistency of players such as Bennell, Luke Russell and Brandon Matera were also highlights in a year where the GC SUNS played 44 listed players.
Cazaly’s Stadium once again hosted a win for the Gold Coast
SUNS who feel at home in the humidity of Cairns. Karmichael Hunt slotted the match winning goal after the final siren had sounded to give the Gold Coasters their first Toyota AFL Premiership points of the 2012 campaign. The win breathed new life into the team who needed some confidence ahead of QClash4 but Guy McKenna said it’s business as usual for the team and it was straight back to the training track.
While in Rounds 20 and 22, The Gold Coast SUNS did it for the fans! The win against the Giants propelled the GC SUNS into one of the biggest upsets of the 2012 season when the Coasters rolled the Blues in a game that had Metricon Stadium rocking well into the night.
