NAB CUP IN MAROOCHYDORE
SUNSHINE COAST SHINES WITH SELL-OUT NAB CUP MATCH
Sunshine Coast sports fans showed their enthusiasm for AFL in the form of a sold out NAB Cup match between the Brisbane Lions and Carlton at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Centre in March.
The first AFL match for the region saw tickets snapped up in just two weeks, a great result for AFL Queensland.
AFL Queensland staff worked with stakeholders including Council and the Police to ensure all aspects of the event operation ran smoothly and successful. The venue capacity was set at 5,000 people for public comfort and good viewing.
Local senior and junior AFL Clubs also benefited, with the Maroochy Roos seniors operating the bars and Sunshine Coast Juniors staffing the canteens. All profits from the sale of the food and drinks went back to support local football.
The afternoon included free entertainment for the kids with the AFL Playground open before and during the match. Fans were
encouraged to bring their own footballs to join in the traditional after match kick-to-kick on the main oval.
The Brisbane Lions turned it for local fans, running out easy winners 15.14 (104) to 6.4 (40).
