ANOTHER STELLAR YEAR FOR FEMALE FOOTBALL
Queensland again experienced a year of massive growth in female football, highlighted by the club sector which saw a 73% increase across women’s and youth girls leagues.
SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND
The South East Queensland Women’s League welcomed Caboolture, Coorparoo and the University of Queensland into the competition for season 2013.
Coorparoo made a thrilling debut with a come- from-behind win to claim the Division One Premiership with Emma Zielke kicking the winning goal with seconds to spare. Kate Lutkins from Yeronga claimed the league best and fairest.
Coorparoo’s Maddie Protheroe snagged the league’s rising star award after a standout first season while Zillmere’s Cassi Bell was the league’s leading goal kicker with 42.
CAPRICORNIA
TOWNSVILLE
Townsville City Lions’ Breanna Koenen starred in a best on ground performance in the first Women’s League Grand Final since 2008. The four team competition had more than 60 women and girls play an exciting brand of football. With the growing demand for women’s competitions, the Townsville comp looks set to grow to six teams by 2015.
CAIRNS
T’Keya Nandy was named best on ground, while the competition’s leading goal-scorer Maddie Peeters kicked three goals as the Tigers capped a phenomenal year with a 14.9 (93) to 0.1 (1) win over Manunda to finish a second straight year undefeated.
YOUTH GIRLS
Youth girls’ football continues to boom with both the Gold and Sunshine Coasts introducing Under 15 Youth Girls club competitions in 2012. Cairns relaunched their U16 Youth Girls competition and Brisbane saw their U15 and U18 competitions continue to grow.
SCHOOL COMPETITIONS
The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS Cups were a great success this year, producing a high standard of football.
Brisbane Lions Cup Winners were:
Primary Mt Carmel
Junior Park Ridge SHS Senior Mountain Creek SHS
Helensvale SHS claimed the Gold Coast SUNS Cup.
The Youth Girls Cup in SEQ saw 25 teams competing across the regions with Lourdes Hill College winning the Girls Junior Cup and Park Ridge State the Girls Senior.
NAB AFL AUSKICK
This year Queensland had 7,000 girls participate in the Auskick program; 27% of the Queensland total.

FEMALE PROGRAMS COORDINATOR
The Glenmore Bullettes dominated rivals and beat last year’s grand finalists Yeppoon Swans in the AFL Capricornia women’s grand final at the Rockhampton Cricket Ground. Leading 3.1 (19) to 0.1 (1) after the opening term, the Bullettes went on to finish 8.6 (54) to 2.3 (15) winners.
