THIRD YEAR’S A CHARM FOR CADBURY AFL 9S
Now in its third year, Cadbury AFL 9s continues to grow, with the game able to be modified to suit participants of any age and skill level.
Numbers rose from 3,096 in 2012 to 7,056 in 2013 on the back of an increased number of venues hosting programs and competitions.
NORTHERN UNI GAMES
Cadbury AFL 9s featured at the Northern Uni Games for the first time in 2013.
The inaugural competition featured six mixed teams, made up of new and experienced footballers. Teams from QUT, UQ, Griffith University and Griffith University Gold Coast battled it out in a four-day carnival, with Griffith University taking out the crown as the Northern Uni Games AFL 9s champions.
EXPANDED HALF-TIME PRESENCE
Cadbury AFL 9s and B105 partnered to give radio listeners the chance to play AFL 9s at half- time of the Round 10 Friday night match between the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood.
Ten lucky listeners joined B105 hosts Labby and Abby, Olympic gold medallist Nat Cook, Channel 7 legend Kay McGrath and female football ambassador Alana Lowes for the match, which was played in front of a crowd of over 30,000 people.
SURFERS PARADISE BEACH LAUNCH
This year saw Cadbury AFL 9s take to Surfers Paradise to launch its October season. The launch was supported by the Gold Coast SUNS, with Sunny Ray starring in an exhibition match, run as part of the regular Surfers Paradise markets. Around 1000 people were exposed to the game with more than 50 people dropping in for a kick.

It was lights, camera, action for AFL 9s this October, when Channel 7 show ‘The Great South East’ filmed and aired a piece on the growth
of AFL 9s throughout South East Queensland, featuring guests Richard Champion and Bill McDonald.
