The Allied Pickfords Cup showcased the state’s best community footballers, in an enlarged competition in 2013.
Growing from 11 to 12 teams this season, with the University of Queensland included for the first time, the competition was fierce.
It was third time lucky for Palm Beach Currumbin, who claimed the 2013 premiership after playing in two losing grand finals in 2011 and 2012.
The Lions defeated Springwood, who pulled off an amazing transformation, going from four wins in 2012 to minor premiers and runners-up this season under new coach, Tony King.
Defending premiers, Western Magpies, battled injuries early but stormed home in the back-half of the season to finish third.
The Magpies fell at the final hurdle to the grand final, going down to the Lions in the preliminary final.
After losing a number of their 2012 premiership players, it was the development of their younger players that added to the 2013 highlights.
Players such as Brady Allen, who claimed the competition’s rising star award, stood up for the Magpies, showing glimpses of their future talents.
Surfers Paradise and Wilston Grange replicated their 2012 performances, with the Demons prevailing in a home elimination final.
The Demons’ depth was proven by the success of their reserves side, who went undefeated through the 2013 season and won a second straight flag.

The Gorillas started superbly, the first side to defeat Palm Beach Currumbin in Round four, but injuries curtailed the middle of their year, and it was a battle for them to claw their way back up the ladder.
In a north side derby in Round 15, the Gorillas fought off Mayne Tigers to secure their final spot.
Mayne was also unlucky with injuries early in the season, but finished off strongly to become a late September contender.
A highlight for the Tigers was the form of 17 year- old Henry Leong, who was very consistent on
the half-back flank in his first full season of senior football.
Sandgate surprised many with a competitive season from its young side.
Led by the contributions of Tom Overington, Michael Richardson and Dan Affleck, the Hawks proved themselves fierce foes of the more experienced sides, and were on the verge of an unlikely finals berth.
The Maroochydore Roos finished up in eighth, disappointed by an inconsistent season.
Captain, Michael Roberts, consistently produced for the Roos, but a number of close losses kept them out of the finals.
Under playing coach, Daniel Hawkins, Coolangatta unearthed some young talent in season 2013.
Zac Brain and Jack Ryan had breakout years for the Blues, while veteran David Lynch was one of the standout players of the league, let alone in his team.
