Female pa icipation increased to 33 per cent of total pa icipation in 2015; with more than 70,000 females playing our game this year, that’s an increase of 37 per cent from 2014.
With multiple new strategies trialled over the years, 2015 proved to be one of the most adventurous.
The introduction of the #girlsplaytoo campaign and merchandise,
the televised exhibition match, Youth Girls Under 14 and Under 17’s state championships, all girls Auskick programs and so many more initiatives rolled out in recent years justifies why Queensland excels in a racting females.
Female pa icipation is not
limited to on-field. There are 48 female development sta  and another 86 females involved in a coaching capacity across the state, while Female High Pe ormance Manager, Craig Starcevich nu ures
the growth of elite players and programs; his job the only one of its kind in the country.
CLUB
G 3,000+ registered club pa icipants in dedicated female competitions - a 35 per cent increase to 2014.
G 122 teams across 15 leagues
G In SEQ the Introduction of the QWAFL State League helped raise the profile and professionalism of female football while the
introduction of the QWAFA provided oppo unities
for beginners and players looking for a more social game.
G Darling Downs was the best pe ormer in 2014, doubling in size in one year. From three to six sides (a 60% increase) the
Downs has again topped the cha s, engaging a fu her three clubs to run a nine team competition in 2015. This makes them the biggest female league in Queensland.
G New Mackay and Townsville leagues were a big hit and are now fully integrated into home-and- away club seasons.
G Brisbane Juniors ove ook the Sunshine Coast in youth girls’ football with 14 new teams fielded in 2015. The league also introduced a new Under 13 age group allowing another 65 girls
to follow their AFL dreams. Brisbane Juniors now boast 22 teams across three age groups Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13.
