TAC CUP
The ledger reads 2-3, but the TAC Cup campaign was much more positive than that for Queensland.
In the first game of the year - up against the Dandenong Stingrays
- Queensland fought back from a slow sta to get within eight-points at the last break. Despite having the majority of the play, they couldn’t conve in front of goal, going down by 14 points.
Second up was the Gippsland Power, and it was a hea breaker. The Power jumped out of the blocks the be er, leading by 19-points at qua er time, but a Queensland fight back, lead by Ben Keays in the middle and Josh Brown up forward, saw them hit the front at three qua er time.
With two minutes to go, and
less than a kick in it, it was
anyone’s game. Unfo unately for Queensland, the Power kicked one with seconds le on the clock to
hit the front, and secure the win. Despite not ge ing the result they wanted, there were a lot of positives to take from the pe ormance, showing everyone they were on the right track.
The third game was when all the hard work paid o . Wylie Buzza was dominate up forward, kicking 5, with Eric Hipwood excellent down back, as Queensland blew the Oakleigh Chargers away in the second qua er. They kicking eight goals to two, before holding on to an eight-point win.
That got the ball rolling in 2015. In their final hit out before
the National Championships,
Queensland took on the Calder Cannons in Victoria, and despite
a slow sta , ran out the game superbly, turning a one-point three qua er time deficit into a 27-point win.
Corey Wagner kicked two goals to go with his 21 disposals in a best on ground pe ormance.
A final TAC Cup game following the National Championships against ladder leaders No h Ballarat on their home deck was a fantastic oppo unity for some of the younger Queensland players to get a run against the best the TAC Cup has to o er.
In tricky conditions, Queensland struggled early, but worked their way back into the game a er half time, but the margin was too great, going down by 46-points.
