SCHOOLS
QUEENSLAND TOP OF THE CLASS IN 2012
Queensland continues to have the highest AFL school participation in Australia and another busy year resulted in further growth throughout the state.
For the first time Primary Girls joined Primary Boys and Year 8/9 in the state-wide competition, a move that received a great response from all involved.
All Queensland finalists were given the rare opportunity of playing at the Gabba or Metricon Stadium.
AFL SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE
The Schools of Excellence Cup was a highly competitive and closely fought season with new rivalries forged.
Two new schools were welcomed into the competition; Mountain Creek State High School -the first School of AFL Excellence to be established on the Sunshine Coast - and the Gold Coast’s Benowa State High School who participated in the Cup as an invitational team.
The Gold Coast’s Helensvale State High School took out their fifth Senior Schools of Excellence Cup in a row, accounting for a brave Victoria Point State High School at the Gabba.
In North Queensland, Townsville’s Kirwan State High School joined the growing list of schools offering an AFL Excellence program, with a junior and senior class offered to students.
