WESTERN MAGPIES
With a number of veterans retiring at the ends
of 2013, the Magpies put some games into their next generation of players in 2014. Under new coach, Glenn Humphrey, the Magpies were in the finals mix for much of the year. Twenty-three year old Ben Jaenke-Cain had a breakout year in the midfield, named in the QAFL team of the year.
UQ
In their first season as a state league team, the University of Queensland proved they could be competition. The Red Lions defeated Sandgate in Round 10, before defeating the Magpies in Round 15 and showed signs of strong improvement through the year.
SANDGATE
Sandgate had a challenging season, adjusting
to the demands of QAFL football. The Hawks managed one win for the season and showed strong competitiveness in matches without clinching a victory. Hawks coach, Rob Dickfos, stood down in the middle of the season, with reserves coach Ian Carter taking over as an interim coach.
